Migrate User’s Files and Settings from Windows XP/Vista to Windows 7 over the wire

by Viewfinity 26. May 2010 07:49

Quick, customizable and complete.

Migrating your users to the Windows 7 OS is a major project. Microsoft's User State Migration tool, while helpful and simplifies the process, only migrates users one-by-one, thus IT Administrators can benefit from centrally managed, domain-based, multi-user migration management capabilities and avoid custom scripting. Viewfinity has developed a wizard-based User State Migration tool that works with the Microsoft User State Migration (one-to-one) scripting tool and adds out-of-the-box automation for multiple-user migration, all from a centralized status and monitoring console. The tool will collect all settings and user data, perform the migration cycle and the restore process all on the same PC or you can elect to completely migrate to a new piece of hardware. All this is done automatically without the need for any custom scripting.

Not intended to break software license compliance

You may have read about software recently that is questionable to use due to how it breaks license compliance. Viewfinity’s User Migration application does not do that.  Viewfinity User Migration DOES NOT migrate applications or operating systems.  Viewfinity User migration only migrates all of the settings and data created by the user during their life on that specific computer.

See what it can do for you:

Upcoming Viewfinity Event at TechRepublic - Managing PCs for Your Mobile Workforce Webcast

by Viewfinity 19. May 2010 10:51

Managing the mobile user is quickly becoming the number one pain point in desktop management, and is a challenge that continues to escalate. Most IT professionals are struggling for a better method to remotely perform patch management, deploy and update applications, manage user privileges, troubleshoot and resolve problems faster, and more. Is this because your mobile users go for extended periods without connecting to your network? Are you relying on traditional tools that were designed when only 10% of your users had laptops?

Viewfinity offers true native remote systems management capabilities with absolute network independence; there is no reliance on corporate network connectivity or VPN. All desktop management is done through a secure and encrypted HTTPS connection. Viewfinity is a single platform used for supporting both on-network PCs and mobile users through which IT administrators can manage and control any computer over the WAN regardless of worker location. The software is intuitive and easy to use, and no training is required.

Martin Silverman, Director of IT for EvensonBest, will share how he is using Viewfinity to manage endpoints for his increasingly mobile workforce. He will discuss:

  • Using Viewfinity to manage administrator rights within his locked down environment
  • Reaching mobile workers to deploy software, set policies, and gather asset and license inventory
  • Features unique to Viewfinity: Activity Journaling and Rollback, that help troubleshoot and resolve support calls faster

The following Viewfinity Systems Management features will be discussed:

  • Software Deployment
  • OS Deployment
  • Patch Management
  • Policy and Privilege Management
  • Asset Management
  • Remote Desktop
  • Features unique to the Viewfinity solution: Activity Journaling and Rollback

Presenters:

Rod Trent, Director of Product Marketing, Viewfinity

Alex Shoykhet, VP of Product Management, Viewfinity

Martin Silverman, Director of IT, EVENSONBEST

Locking down PCs must not keep the business from functioning

by Viewfinity 11. May 2010 16:26

All organizations agree that locking down desktops allows IT to control and protect the entire distributed desktop environment. This practice reduces system vulnerability by allowing end users to use only the applications and desktop functions that are deemed safe. However, to be a worthy business policy, lockdown must support true cost savings.

Application Control / Whitelisting Interest is Growing Rapidly – Viewfinity leading the charge

by Viewfinity 11. May 2010 13:48

I believe the attacks on Google (Operation Aurora / “Hydraq”) created a watershed moment that has raised the visibility on how ineffective traditional signature-based antivirus solutions really are.

There’s no shortage of vendors delivering solutions for application control / whitelisting. Most application-control vendors control whether a given file can be executed or not.

Elevating Rights for Standard Users with Immediate Enforcement – no need to reboot or wait for a GPO to take effect

by Viewfinity 6. May 2010 13:31

You probably already know (at least you should) that Viewfinity’s Privilege Management application is key to securing your environment.  It provides a comprehensive feature set not included in similar offerings.  Viewfinity’s Privilege Management application allows you to lockdown your company’s computing assets while still allowing end-users to work with the proper rights they need to stay productive.

But, what you may not realize is that enforcement of rules is immediate.  As long as the client computer has access to the Internet, the rules are enforced immediately.  No need to wait for a GPO to update across a large network, or even to force the end-user to interrupt business productivity to reboot the computer or logon and logoff for the GPO to take effect.  Viewfinity’s smart client application handles the immediate enforcement of new rules that you setup just by connecting to the Viewfinity cloud over an Internet connection.

Viewfinity has developed a best-of-breed application to ensure you have complete control over your environment and that your business remains agile and secure.
