Commercial enterprises are putting our critical infrastructure at risk

by Mary Rose 31. May 2012 13:11

Network World’s recent article written by Sean Martin cites cybercriminals chilling strides in shortcuts to critical infrastructures. The sub-title says it best” “We know bad things can happen but we are not doing enough about it.” The article describes trends, attack scenarios plus key weaknesses, one being improperly managed account rights. Viewfinity CEO Leonid Shtilman warns that "most organizations are victims of 'privilege creep,' the situation where privileges are locked down initially by IT and are then increased little by little over time."

Viewfinity Privilege Management Solution Now Available On Carahsoft’s GSA Schedule 70

by Mary Rose 7. May 2012 10:24
Good news for those working in the federal, state or local governments sectors. The Viewfinity Privilege Management solution is now available on the General Services Administration Schedule (GSA) through its partner, Carahsoft Technology Corp., the trusted government IT solutions provider. Viewfinity provides a solution for highly flexible and granular control of privilege management and application control for Windows desktops, laptops and servers, empowering government organizations to meet compliance mandates for USGCB/FDCC and FIPS.

The U.S. Government Configuration Baseline (USGCB), formerly known as the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC), continues to be one of the most successful governmental IT programs aimed at helping to increase security, reduce costs, and accelerate the adoption of new government technologies, while creating a more managed desktop environment.  In addition to managing privileges for standard users, Viewfinity provides USGCB tracking and auditing of all administrative activities and elevated privilege policies across an organization's entire infrastructure, from Windows-based endpoints, to servers, virtual machines, cloud/SaaS, and remote-based endpoints.

“Managing a security structure as defined by government mandates can be a daunting task for any agency,” said Brian O’Donnell, director of sales for Carahsoft’s security solutions portfolio. “That’s why Carahsoft is so pleased to partner with Viewfinity to bring its proven, solid solution for eliminating security risks to our customers, partners and resellers.”A two-time winner of the Security Products’ Guide “Govies” outstanding government IT security product award, is on GSA Schedule GS-35F-0119Y.

Viewfinity’s Privilege Management Proves Compelling ROI For Government

by Mary Rose 1. May 2012 13:15
Viewfinity Privilege Management was recently featured in GSN: Government Security News Magazine describing how it saved Douglas County (Colorado) Libraries significant time and money on IT administrative tasks, support and upgrades without impacting user productivity. Viewfinity’s Privilege Management solution, during the initial rollout, resulted in savings in excess of $180,000. Monique Sendze, associate director of information technology for Douglas County Libraries, states,As an IT organization, we have succeeded with the age-old struggle to create the appropriate balance between a secure and productive user management environment, and ensuring enough flexibility to enable user innovation and productivity.” The driving force behind Douglas County’s mandates was the principle of creating a “least privileges” environment. Douglas County Libraries makes every attempt to adhere to best practices set forth by federal agencies, one of which is the U.S. Government Configuration Baseline (USGCB), formerly known as the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC).  This means that all Douglas County end users are restricted users, with no local administrative rights to their machines. This provides a fundamental layer of IT protection to help ensure systems are less at risk.  By managing user privilege needs via Viewfinity Privilege Management policies, user productivity is not interrupted nor is there an increase in support call volume, thereby offering a cost effective approach to providing a secure and productive desktop computing environment.Read the full GSN Magazine article.
