In a SearchSecurity article today recapping the RSA SecurID breach, a message that came through loud and clear is that organizations need to have several layers of security protection in place to reduce the risk of security breaches.Removing Administrative Rights from your PCs is an added layer of protection that will halt breaches that could otherwise occur. At MMS this week, we spoke to a lot of people, and everyone has a story. Every IT person I spoke with who has implemented a least privileges approach to managing its machines said the user complaints related to not being able to install whatever they want far out weight the risks that occur without lockdown. Those who don’t have a locked down environment want to move to that model. The conversations were productive. As a vendor, we learned about their needs for managing least privileges. In turn, they were able to see the value and benefits of using a privilege management solution to help ease the restrictions lockdown can impose. The article discussing the RSA SecurID Security Breach said it best: having breadth of security technologies in place is key. Locked down environments managed with a commercial privilege management solution is an added layer of protection that will help mitigate security risks.
