Video Auditing: create and store a screen recorded video of user activity
Viewfinity’s Video Audit feature provides an option to capture a screen recorded video of user activity based upon a particular application or policy. IT Administrators can gain an understanding of how particular applications are being used by end users. IT Administrators can elect to record user actions based upon specific policies and/or applications. This feature has wide-spread applicability and appeal considering the type of information that can be recorded and used for policy auditing purposes. For example, you can monitor a user session during which the user has elevated permissions to install an application for troubleshooting purposes or it can be used for monitoring suspicious user activity.
The recorded files can be stored locally, on the Viewfinity Server or on a network share. Administrators can establish the time duration to record activity or specify by a disk space allotment. If the recorded video is stored on a network share or on the Viewfinity server, we also enable bandwidth throttling.
Tracing Viewfinity Administrator’s actions
Video Auditing is also available to track the Viewfinity Administrator's actions. When an administrator creates a policy, there is a corresponding audit log that tracks the administrator’s actions and activity. Senior IT management and audit teams gain a clear understanding of which policies are being activated/deactivated, created, and removed by the IT team. During a corporate audit, it is critical to have the ability to identify the administrators who are enforcing your compliance policy rules.
Activity Auditing
Our real-time monitoring and recording of laptop, desktop and application events provides the
administrator with a auditable record of all changes being made on the laptop or desktop.
Viewfinity's precise activity auditing feature provides a picture of all meaningful user/application
activity for every laptop and desktop in easy-to-identify markers, such as:
- "Installation of non-compliant applications"
- "Start process AOL.exe"
- "Connected USB device"
- “Moved file customers.docx"
- "Uninstalled Anti Virus program"

Audit Laptop & Desktop Events
When an audit needs to be performed on a specific PC, our Activity Auditing feature both expedites the process as well as aids in the interpretation of the results of the information collected. The IT Administrator simply accesses the desktop activity journal for the specific end user and a record of all recent desktop activities appears. Navigating through the Activity Auditing journal is easy because the information is presented in several drillable levels. Activity events can be filtered by application, file updates, copy, move events, application installations and removals, as well as the usage of any external devices such as USB drives. The filter option can also be applied by time/date settings or to a date range.
Because the desktop activity information can be presented using flexible filtering options, you can easily drill down to find the information you need. Decisive actions can be immediately taken, such as blocking unapproved applications, establishing policies to prevent the use of IM when users are connected to the network, or elevating privileges so users can work with certain applications that may require administrator rights.
Screen Recordings of Desktop Activity
For every relevant desktop activity, Activity Auditing can optionally capture screen recorded video of laptop and desktop activity including user data and application events. Screen recordings of desktop activity offer another layer of auditable changes occurring on desktop. The recorded screen capture activity logs are configurable according to specific requirements. For example, if management has an idea that an employee is involved in non-compliant activity, the screen recording video can be enabled for his specific computer and that user's activity will be recorded. The activity logs are compressed and stored locally on the endpoint client. This architecture was designed to minimize bandwidth usage — the log file containing the stored rollback events and screen recorded video clips is only transferred to the Viewfinity server when requested by the IT administrator.
Even if the laptop is completely disconnected from the corporate network, the Viewfinity agent will still record the user's desktop activity and also capture and save a screen-recorded video of the user actions if that option has been enabled. Activity event log files are customizable either on a global or computer level for a specified time period or storage capacity.
Viewfinity Support for Delegated Security
Viewfinity products provide delegated management control to support the needs of your various IT roles and staff members. The primary Viewfinity Administrator account has authorization to manage all computers in the organization. This primary account can create separate computer subsets based on departments, regions, and other criteria and assign management control of these subsets to specific individuals. Each subset administrator can deploy agents, apply policies, and report on computers which fall under his/her management.
Viewfinity supports two levels of system management accounts. Full control system management accounts have complete access to product features such as the ability to create, stop, start, and modify policies; deploy agents and monitor activity. Read only accounts are targeted for subset administrators which require “review only access” including activities such as viewing reports and monitoring policy and asset management reports, reviewing computer connectivity status, etc.
